Advice on Buggy Building

(...excerpted from kitebuggy users group...)

Subject: RE: [kitebuggy] How to build your own buggy?

I remember my first attempt at a home build , it looked quite like a
buggy and used a BMX front fork and a chair like the ones we had @
school . It worked well until I hit 15Mph , the geometery was wrong It
flipped and I broke 3 rip. I them took off the wheels and used them for
a wheel barrow and purchased a PL Comp

Ok I`ve just joined and looking for some information, and input about
building my own kite buggy. At the moment I`m kite boarding on a
mountainboard. And after visiting
http://home.plex.nl/~fnijhuis/buggy/index.html
I`m inspired to build my own???, please email me if you`ve done this
before, and or any other sites you know with information to help me
along the way.

I spent a month designing one....

I'd cut foam cores to make a carbon-fibre frame, and a stressed
fibreglass rear axle... and it was all ready to be layed up in resin
when my girlfrind decided she didn't want me to do it.... (smell,
space, time, blah blah nag-nag-nag)

the project got delayed....

I split with my girlfriend,

I realised how much cheaper life was líving alone and then decided
that i was well justified in spending some cash on a buggy.

I baught a libre special, and have since been having a great laugh ;)

You can pick up a good second-hand buggy REALLY cheap... it saves
time, effort and you know the thing'll work. besides.... you can
start buggying as soon as you get it.....

Nick.

just have a look at some of the home-brewed buggies that are on the
web... it should serve as both inspiration, and a warning. ;)

I agree, a good second-hand buggy is much less hassle, but if you are
determined that is the way you want to go start with the wheels. If you
can't get them for under £20 each with bearings then forget it. Frame and
seat are the easy/cheap bits but it's the wheels that are the difficult bit.
