Directions from Huntsville, AL

Come to Decatur from Huntsville by I-565 West. After you cross the causeway and bridge it becomes Hwy 31 South (or 6th Ave). Just keep following it south and you'll pass a McDonald's Hamburgers on the left (at 8th St), a Burger King on your right (just past 11th St). At the next traffic light (after the Burger King) turn right. This is 14th St. There will be a round building (Union Planters Bank) on the right at 14th St. where you're turning right. This is an easy landmark to spot.

Now you're headed west on 14th St. You'll stay on 14th St. until you get to the 2nd traffic light. This will be Central Pkwy (at the bottom of the overpass). Forever Flying will be in the little shopping center on this corner (on the far right--northwest quadrant--behind the J-Mart Pure Gas Station/Convenient Store) in Century Plaza Shopping Center. To get to the store, go on through the intersection and turn in to the parking lot just beyond the J-Mart and follow the "L" shape around to the far end.

To get to the Decatur Utilities Field, turn right (from 14th St.) onto Central Pkwy. Now you're headed north. You'll go maybe half a mile (back just past 8th St.) before you'll see Decatur Utilities payment center (1002 Central Pkwy) on the right. The flying field is just past the DU building (on the right also). Just keep going until you get to the next building (DU warehouse facility) where you'll see a place to turn in and park right next to the field (on the north side of the field).

Call or email if you need further details or clarification.

>> Hello kitefliers!
>> I got your email address off the "Forever
>Flying"
>> email. I'm writing to let you all know that the
>> Scenic City Kite Club in Chattanooga will be
>> hosting their 10th annual kitefly this year on April
>> 6th. That's a Saturday.
>> There will be a PA system with music and if
>> you want to "perform" a kite ballet or show off
>your
>> team flying skills, we'd love to have you
>> participate. We can work you in.
>> Of Course there will be teddy bear drops and
>> candy drops, perhaps some aerial photography.
>> There will be fighter kite competition if there are
>> competitors and a Rokaku challenge if there are
>> participants. We will have a sign in sheet at the
>> registration table near the sound tent.
>> Email me if you have questions or you want to
>> participate. The field is large; Atlanta usually
>> sends a group up and they set up and picnic all
>> day as they fly. There are no grills on the flying
>> field and we don't provide lunch opportunities but
>> there is a grill on the other side of the park (2 or 3
>> hundred yards away) and you may bring coolers
>> (no alcoholic beverages are allowed).
>> Come and have a day of it. We hope to
>> arrange with a restaurant for a spot for dinner for
>> kiterfliers to re-nourish and get to know each
>> other. Last year there were three of us but we
>had a great time.

>> Ok. So where is it going to be? The
>> Tennessee Riverpark Kitefly will be held at the
>> Tennessee Riverpark on amnicola highway
>along the river up from town but below the dam and
>> Chattanooga State Technical and Community
>> College. Ok. so how do you actually get there?
>> From 75 S (Atlanta) take the 75 N toward
>> Knoxville and almost immediately take the Hwy
>> 153 exit/bypass toward Chickamauga
>> Dam and the airport. Now you're really going
>> north. Stay on 153 for about 2 or 3 miles and
>just before yougo over the dam, take the Amnicola
>> Hwy exit which will also take you past
>> Chattanooga State. The TN Riverpark entrance
>is the 2nd right aff the Hwy past Chattanooga State.
>> You'll see us once you're in the park.

>> If you're coming from Huntsville, Nashville or
>> somewhere else from that direction, come into
>> Chattanooga on I-24. You can go around
>> Chattanooga following signs for Knoxville and
>> then follow the above directions. However,
>> another way and quicker is to follow the signs for
>> downtown Chattanooga and the TN Aquarium.
>> Get of the Interstate (i27 or 127) at the Aquarium
>> exit. Take the fiorst left on Chestnut, right in front
>> of the Creative Discovery Museum. Follow
>> Chestnut until it deadends at the river into
>> Riverfront Parkway. Take a right at that light.
>> follow Riverfront Parkway all the way around
>along the river. It turns into Amnicola Highway. You
>will pass an Industrial Park and the Police Station,
>> cross a creek and then finally come to the
>> entrance to the TN Riverpark on the left. Turn in
>> and follow the road around through the park and
>> under a bridge to the other side of the park
>where you will find us. Wha-la!

My cell number is 580-1672 if you get lost.
>> Hope to see you all in Chattanooga on April 6th, 2002.

Call or email if you need further details or clarification.
